Publish and version
Move a role or skill between draft and published, and restore an earlier version.
All the steps presented below can be autonomously handled through your AI agent (Claude Desktop) and executed for you. See Author with AI.
Roles and skills share one lifecycle. Edit in a draft, publish when it is ready, and agents keep using the last published version until you do.
Open a draft
Click Edit on a published role or skill. Your changes autosave as you work, and nothing changes for agents yet.
Publish it
Click Publish. If a script or asset in the draft has no file attached, a confirm asks whether to publish it as an empty placeholder anyway.
Check it worked
The status changes from Draft to Published, and a new snapshot appears in the item's version history (see Restore an earlier version).
Discard a draft instead
Click the discard icon next to Publish, then confirm Discard. This reverts the item to its last published state. It cannot be undone.
When someone else holds the draft
You see Take over instead of Edit. Taking over transfers the lock to you: their saved content is kept, but they can no longer edit it.
Restore an earlier version
Open the version history:
- on a skill, More options > View history
- on a role, the Versions tab
Each row is a past published snapshot, with its date, author and a Compare action that shows the diff. Click Restore on any snapshot to publish it again as a new snapshot: nothing is deleted, and the version you restored from stays in the list.
See every open draft
Open your user menu and choose Drafts. The page lists Your drafts and, when you may publish them, Other people's drafts, across both roles and skills. Tick several and click Publish selected to publish them one after another.
